Walden Schmidt, ein begeisterter FKK-Anhänger, der aus Liebeskummer einen misslungenen Selbstmordversuch hinter sich hat – bringt frischen Wind in Alan Harpers (Jon Cryer) Leben. Nach dem Tod seines Bruders Charlie (Charlie Sheen) plagen den trauernden Alan Geldsorgen: Seine Mutter droht mit dem Verkauf des Strandhauses in Malibu. Da steht plötzlich ein Fremder auf Alans Terrasse: der Internet-Milliardär Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher). Die beiden freunden sich an und Walden kauft Alan kurzerhand das Haus ab – und gewährt ihm und seinem Sohn Jake (Angus T. Jones) Asyl. Die beiden Männer geben ein äußerst ungleiches Paar ab: Walden ist ein Kindskopf, der sich eine Frau nach der anderen anlacht. Alan hingegen hat mit den Frauen wie gewohnt nur Pech.
